As we embark on an exciting and transformative term, our Year 5/6 class is set to explore topics that not only expand our knowledge but also challenge us to think critically and creatively. This term, we will journey through the history of World War II, learning about the courage, resilience, and sacrifices that shaped the world we live in today. We will explore Brazil’s rich culture, vibrant landscapes, and its role in the global community, while also discovering how electricity powers our lives and fuels the future.
In English, we will hone our persuasive writing skills, crafting powerful letters that influence, inspire, and inform. We will learn to communicate with clarity, emotion, and logic as we express our ideas and take action on the issues that matter most.
Our aim is not just to learn facts, but to understand the connections between history, geography, science, and the world we live in. Together, we will ask questions, seek answers, and build the skills to become thoughtful, responsible global citizens.
Through these subjects, we will develop not only knowledge but also the skills to think independently, work collaboratively, and share our voices with confidence. This is a year of discovery, growth, and achievement – let’s make the most of every moment and inspire one another to reach new heights.
Let’s embrace the challenges ahead, and be ready to create, question, and explore – together, we will make this term one to remember!
Class PE Days for Year 5/6 are: Thursday and Friday. Please come to school dressed in your PE kits on those days.
Please ensure that all PE kit and school uniform is labelled with your child's name inside. Your child is responsible for their own property and must look after their uniforms, especially jumpers and cardigans. Please also make sure that your child has a pair of wellies in school, with their name clearly labelled inside. The children will be doing lots of outdoor activities with forest schools and on rainy days will require their wellies.
Pupils will be set several homework tasks each week that need to be completed, children are required to read daily, access TT Rockstars and practice their spellings. In addition, Year 6 children will be required to complete SATs Companion which will be set at the teacher's discretion. Additional tasks across the foundation subjects may also be set, which the children will be informed of. Home learning tasks will be set on Friday and must be completed by the following Friday each week. Additionally, a home learning activity sheet will be sent out each half term and the children will be encouraged to complete as many activities as possible. Instructions for home learning can be found on our class communication and learning platform 'Showbie' which may direct them to other learning platforms.
If possible, please can you provide your child with their own individual headphones which will be labelled and kept in their tray at school.
An inexpensive, wired pair are preferably as large headphones will not fit in their tray. School will not be held responsible for expensive headsets going missing so please do not send in ear buds or air pods.
Our classroom does get warm so please ensure your child is sent into school with a refillable water bottle. This must only contain water and not juice or cordial. If your child would like a mid-morning snack at break, please ensure this is a healthy snack like fruit or yogurt.
